My accent... the WEST?

Must be all those years of voice lessons and hearing the nags on dipthongs and ending consonants... because I am definitely a BUCKEYE! No, like, surfer chick here, 'K?

What American accent do you have?
Your Result: The West

Your accent is the lowest common denominator of American speech. Unless you're a SoCal surfer, no one thinks you have an accent. And really, you may not even be from the West at all, you could easily be from Florida or one of those big Southern cities like Dallas or Atlanta.

Are you REALLY gonna wear your OSU garb to worship? Do you vest? I might have to do that too! We will definitely sing "Come Christians join to Sing" if OSU is playing for the national championship--probably on Epiphany. I have already done it this fall when football season started--of course that's why we're undefeated.
Oh and I forgot to mention that I too am menopausal--somebody should warn women who have babies after about 25 what evil they're setting themselves up for (puberty and menopause in one house;) That too reeks of Job-like theodicy...

No vestments - we are a casual church. I usually wear my 'best' jeans. This week I'm behind the keyboard (in the worship band) so most people will likely not see it anyway.)

LOL on puberty and menopause... only from a God who created giraffes and human toes... smile...

Since I live in the town of "the competition" I will tell you that people are considering this weekend's game to be the true national championship game (since OSU and UM are the only highly-ranked undefeated teams).

I participated in the annual Blood Battle yesterday (UM-OSU competitive blood drive) and I hear we're currently leading in that, although the real winners of course are the blood banks.

Well that's hilarious - I AM from the west (southwest, more precisely) and it pegs me as being from the Midland (including Ohio). And apparently

"You have a Midland accent" is just another way of saying "you don't have an accent."

So do all them say "you don't have an accent" ???

Anyway, I once had a sociolinguist do this kind of exercise on me (after she caught me saying a word that clearly indicated I wasn't from Michigan). She wrote down a list of words and had me say them out loud, then pegged where I grew up. She was pretty close to spot on. It was doubly fascinating for me because I'd taken some linguistics classes as an undergrad so knew some of the principles the 'official' list is trying to tease out. (This quiz doesn't use as extensive a list as what the linguist had used.)
